Chessmate started with a simple question. Why do different chess engines suggest different moves - and which one's actually better?

That curiosity led to creating a tool where you can see how engines think, compare their suggestions side-by-side, and play with different settings to better understand what’s happening behind the scenes. That tool is now Chessmate - a flexible, powerful app for anyone who wants to explore chess more deeply.

With Chessmate, you’re not just getting the “next best move” - you’re stepping into the world of advanced engine analysis. Load a board from any position, choose your engines, adjust their settings, and instantly see how each one evaluates the same situation.

Engines

Chessmate supports a growing collection of powerful chess engines, both in your browser and in the cloud. Whether you’re running quick analysis on your phone or leaning on remote horsepower, we’ve got you covered.

In your browser

These engines run directly on your device for instant, offline analysis and full control over configuration.

The multi-thread builds use several of your device’s cores at once. It needs a browser page that is cross-origin isolated, which the Chessmate app is; if you open it somewhere that is not, the app shows it as unavailable and the single-thread build takes over.

In the cloud

Tap into cloud-powered engines for deeper, longer evaluations without taxing your device. Each one runs on six dedicated cores.

Several Stockfish generations are listed on purpose: putting one position to Stockfish 19, 17.1 and 16.1 at once is a good way to see how the evaluation itself has changed. Viridithas searches one line at a time, so the Lines control does not appear for it.

Komodo and Komodo Dragon aren’t part of this line-up - every engine Chessmate offers is open source.
